Suggestions:
There are many great places to stay in downtown and nearby neighborhoods. We’ve listed a few of our favorites here but please feel free to branch out. We recommend sticking to the neighborhoods depicted in the map for hotels or Airbnbs, especially those in blue. These neighborhoods will be more centrally located and are walkable to restaurants, bars, and activities.
Transportation
Detroit is called the Motor City for a reason! Cars are the most popular way to get around, with limited public transportation options. During your stay in Detroit, you can easily get around downtown areas using Uber/Lyft and public transportation including the People Mover and QLine.
Things to Do
Eastern Market
Large farmers and artisans’ market open on Saturdays and craft markets on Sundays. Bars, restaurants, and some shops are open all week long.
Dequindre Cut
Site of Zach & Abby’s first date! Large former railway transformed into greenspace with a biking/walking path. Option to rent MoGo bikes to ride, or just walk. The beer garden, the Dequindre Cut Freightyard, is open on the weekends.
Shopping
Downtown, Midtown, and Corktown all have great boutique shopping districts to explore while you’re here.
Detroit Grand Prix
The Detroit Grand Prix will be taking place the same weekend as our wedding. The track goes right through the streets of downtown. Make sure to buy tickets in advance or attend the free viewing on Friday
Belle Isle
State Park and Island in the Detroit River. This is where Zach and Abby got engaged! There are many attractions to enjoy including a beach, conservatory, aquarium, gardens, walking/mild hiking paths, driving range, Great Lakes museum, and more. It is easiest to access and get around the island via car.
Museums
Detroit is home to some world-renowned museums including:
Motown Museum (advance ticket purchase recommended)
